We have been all over Callao these past few days meeting with so many people to learn about the people, their culture and lifestyles. We have visited St Angela Merici School each day and have been so warmly greeted by all. I’ve quickly learned to greet with Hola and a kiss to the right cheek! The students have loved us visiting them on the playground and in the classroom.
Interestingly enough, the government will pay some of the salaries in the private/parochial schools after passing required exams. They are funding 10 of 26 teachers at St Angela Merici which is a preK to Secondary School of about 420 students.
Summer season has just finished and the school just began its new year. They are in their second week of school. Unfortunately,they lost a teacher right as the school year was about to begin-some things are the same wherever you go!
